Every life is sacred! The I.A.R.C. was created in 2007 by a collaboration of concerned professionals and agencies in the Greater Ignacio and Durango Area.Its purpose is simply to assist Ignacio Area residents to address their mental health needs and enhance their lives. One of the keys to I.A.R.C.’s success is that its services are provided locally in Ignacio.
During the past year, over a hundred children, youth and adults have received services from the I.A.R.C. without charge.

- Initial Assessments/Screenings

Residents may call the Ignacio Area Resource Center (office 970-563-4517 or cell phone 970-764-0727) Monday through Friday between 8 AM and 5 PM for mental health services of an urgent nature.
These assessments are utilized to determine the level of need of the resident and are not for emergency situations. Upon the determination of need, the Mental Health Therapist will either refer the resident to the appropriate level of treatment or provide mental health services (individual, family or group counseling for children, youth and adults) or case management. Assessments may be initiated by self-referrals or professionals.

The licensed Mental Health Therapist will provide individual, family and group counseling to children, youth and adults. The I.A.R.C. will either provide or refer the resident to specialized groups (A.A, N.A., Parenting, Women’s, Men’s Grief). The Mental Health Therapist is a community resource person who will assist the residents match their needs with the network of community resources. The management of this process will assist the residents address their activities of daily living (legal, medical, educational, leisure and vocational).

The Mental Health Therapist will provide brief follow-up counseling to residents who have had a crisis, as well as check-in calls for support. This is a pro-active support process that helps to prevent re-lapse. Those residents who have received Emergency Services from S.W.C.M.H.C. may also receive follow-up care upon returning to the community.

All Ignacio area residents (children, youth and adults) are eligible for mental health services at the area Resource Center.
